(Photo by Chinnawat Singha)PHITSANULOK - Dozens of non-fixed route passenger van operators in Phitsanulok are calling for a review of new regulations designed to increase the safety of public van services, saying they are impractical for their sector. The rules in question include the requirement that public vans install special devices for monitoring speed and speed limits, and that they keep in the left lane. According to the operators' petition, a speed limit of 90kph and use of the left lane only are impractical rules and may even hinder traffic safety in certain circumstances. A chartered van should be registered as a "vehicle-for-hire" with a driver, like a taxi, and a licence for public transportation.
